Red Devils Split Weekend Finale, Await Playoff Showdown With Windsor

The Wallaceburg Red Devils finished second in the Far West Division of the Ontario Jr B Lacrosse League after splitting their final two regular season match-ups this past weekend.

The Red Devils finished off the home portion of their weekend with a 19-3 trouncing of the St. Catharines Spartans. Kyle Dawson led the way with 4 goals and 2 assists. Tyler Brown was huge again adding 2 goals and 5 assists, Cory Lucier went 1 plus 5 and Carter Hastings tossed in 3 goals and 2 helpers. It was a defensive gem too, as Noble Jacobs stopped all but 3 shots over the first 40 minutes and Emily Van Damme held the Spartans totally scoreless in the 3rd period. The player of the game, playing his 99th in a Red Devils jersey and his final regular season HOME game ever was Evan Mathany who potted 2 goals and 2 assists and helped check St. Catharines to a standstill.

Wallaceburg dropped their regular season finale 12-10, on the road in Guelph on Sunday. Both Brown (1G, 6A) and Mathany (2G, 5A)  finished strong with seven points each. Carter hastings netted four, with one helper, recently acquired Sidney Powless scored two and Vern Hill added three points, one of which was a goal. Emily VanDamme and Noble Jacobs split time between the pipes in the loss.

The Red Devils await a first round playoff match-up with the rival Windsor Clippers. Windsor finished just two points ahead of Wallaceburg to claim the Far West regular season crown. The Clippers bested Wallaceburg with a head to head record of 2-1-1 this season. A first round schedule is expected to be released shortly.
