Bothwell’s Nick Wammes will represent his country this summer, after being selected to compete for Canada at the 2017 Junior Track World Championships in Monti Chiari, Italy in August.

Team Canada, consisting of 13 athletes, will compete in the cycling event from August 23 to 27. Wammes, who has represented Canada before, will attend a pre-worlds camp at Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, Ontario from August 6 to 16.

“I’m thrilled to be leading our best and brightest junior track athletes to Italy in August,” said head coach Craig Griffin in a Cycling Canada news release. “This is an exciting time for Cycling Canada, our programs and athletes as we continue to build upon the ground work that has been laid these past years.

In April, Wammes won a National Championship, becoming the Junior National Champion in the Keirin, and Team Sprint events, setting a new Canadian record in the Team Sprint.
