Aitken, Kirchner To Play In Europe

A pair of Chatham-Kent hockey players, Xandre Aitken and Lucas Kirchner, are heading to Europe this month to play for the Draftday 07’s (Draftday Canada) team.

The 10-year-old duo played ‘AAA’ together this winter with the Chatham-Kent Cyclones, and will again suit up for the Cyclones Major Atom team this winter.

Aitken and Kirchner will begin their experience in Stockholm, Sweden where they will practice with their Draftday 07s teammates, and play Sweden SHD in an exhibition game.

Their real competition begins next Wednesday in Helsinki, Finland, playing Provorovs Selects (Russia), followed by a pair of games Thursday, against Sweden SHD, and Finland SHD. Friday the team will play the Czech Knights and Latvia SHD. The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals Saturday.

Aitken, a defenseman, is entering his second season with the Cyclones, after starting his travel hockey career with the Kent Cobras. The Grande Pointe resident is entering grade 5 this Fall at École catholique Ste Catherine in Pain Court.

Kirchner, a centerman, also played for the Kent Cobras prior to ‘AAA’ last season. A Chatham resident, Kirchner will enter grade 5 at Tecumseh Public School this September. Kirchner is a veteran of the Draftday program, playing with the Draftday Regional Express West team the past two spring seasons.
