Carleton Makes Team Canada
Chatham’s Bridget Carleton was named this week to Canada’s top women’s team, the Canadian Senior National basketball team, following months of camps, exhibitions, and tryouts.
Carleton, who plays NCAA Division I basketball for Iowa State, will compete with Canada at the upcoming FIBA Women’s AmeriCup from August 6 to August 13 in Buenos Aires, Argentina with the goal of qualifying for the 2018 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Spain.
Canada is the top ranked team at the event, with the USA not participating in the event. They open competition August 6 against Cuba, August 7 versus Puerto Rico, August 8 against Mexico, and round out pool play August 10 facing Paraguay.
Carleton has played 49 career games for Canada, travelling across Europe, and China this summer with the Senior National team. This is the fifth year the John McGregor Secondary School graduate will represent Canada, having played in the FIBA World Championships for Canada’s U19 and U17 rosters.
