Former Chatham Maroons forward Justin Azevedo, seen here with the KHL’s Ak Bars Kazan, will play for Canada in one of two pre-Olympic Games tournaments this August.

Former Chatham Maroons forward Justin Azevedo has been named to one of Team Canada’s pre-Olympic Games tournament team rosters.

Azevedo, who currently plays for Ak Bars Kazan in the KHL, will represent Canada at the 2017 Sochi Hockey Open in Russia from August 6-9.

Azevedo scored 55 points for the Maroons in 2003-2004 before moving onto the OHL with the Kitchener Rangers.

A draft pick of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, the 5’7″ forward scored 34 points in 54 KHL games last season.

The 2017 Sochi Hockey Open roster, named by Team Canada’s Olympic GM Sean Burke, is one of two tournament rosters being used to help select Canadian talent playing overseas for the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Without NHL participation in the 2018 Olympic Games, Canada is looking to field a team of professionals and ex-NHL players competing in European leagues.

Also suiting up for the 2017 Sochi Hockey Open for Canada will be former NHLers Rob Klinkhammer, Brandon Kozun, Daniel Paille, Mason Raymond, Max Talbot, Linden Vey, Justin Peters, Kevin Poulin, and Gilbert Brule.
