Sasseville Golden Again, Locals Shine At Nationals

Genevieve Sasseville showed she’s one of the best swimmers in her age group in Canada this week, winning a pair of gold medals at the Canadian Junior National Swimming Championships in Toronto, Ontario.

The Chatham Y Pool Sharks swimmer won gold earlier this week in the 100m butterfly with a time of 1.01.67, and added another gold on the final day of competition in the 50m freestyle, finishing with a time of 26.85 in the girls 13-14 year old category. She was also 4th in the 100m freestyle 59.03, 9th in the 200m freestyle, 9th in the 100m backstroke

Wallaceburg’s Madison Broad, who also swims for the Chatham Y Pool Sharks, won multiple medals over the event as well, including a gold in the 100m backstroke 1:01.92, and a silver in the 200m backstroke (2:13.56).

In the 50m 15-17 girls race on Sunday, Wallaceburg’s Nicole Depooter, who swims for Windsor Aquatic Club, finished 6th (27.17). Depooter also helped her Windsor team to an 8th place finish in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Chatham swimmer Kendra Polewski was 8th (27.27) in the country in the 50m girls 15-17 race. Earlier in the week, Polewski took 10th in the 100m butterfly (1:03.35), and 9th in the 100m freestyle (58.43)

Blenheim’s Brendan Van Herk finished 6th in the 400m IM (4:43.73). Chatham’s David Tran was also in competition in multiple events swimming to personal bests.
