The Blenheim Blades added two big pieces to the puzzle this weekend as their camp kicked off, signing Junior B veterans Dede Cato and Austin Bentley.

Cato, a defenseman, brings three seasons of Junior B and Junior A experience to the Blades, scoring 28 points in 38 regular season and playoff games last season with the GOJHL’s LaSalle Vipers. He also played 3 games for the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires last year.

He last played Junior C in 2014-2015, when he split the year between three leagues, finishing for a playoff run with the Dresden Kings.

Bentley, who had previously committed to play for the GOJHL’s Chatham Maroons this offseason, is the second player to de-commit from Chatham to join the Blades, along with Nick Delyzer.

Bentley played for the Sarnia Legionnaires last season, along with the Dresden Kings, before joining Blenheim for a late season push. While with the Blades he scored 31 points in 23 games.

Blenheim also signed defenseman Connor Shipton, who played Junior A last year for the GMHL’s Toronto Predators. The 1999 born defender will attend the University of Windsor. He had 19 points in 37 games last year.

Blenheim takes to the ice this week again on Tuesday and Thursday, followed by three skates next week prior to opening their exhibition schedule playing a home and home against Wallaceburg September 1 and September 2, and trio of games against Lakeshore and Wheatley September 7, 10, and 11 to close out their exhibition schedule.
