Carleton, Canada Open FIBA AmeriCup

Chatham’s Bridget Carleton and the Canadian Senior National basketball team will open the FIBA Women’s Basketball AmeriCup today in Buenos, Aires, Argentina this week.

The 10-team tournament will qualify three Nations for the 2018 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Spain.

Carleton, who plays NCAA Division I basketball for Iowa State, is in her 5th season representing Canada, but is a rookie to the Canadian Senior National team at a major international competition.

Canada, the top ranked team at the event, will open their tournament August 6 against Cuba.

Next on the schedule is Puerto Rico August 7, followed by an August 8 game against Mexico, and the final game of pool play August 10 facing Paraguay. The medal games will begin August 12.

Carleton has played 49 career games for Canada, travelling across Europe, and China this summer with the Senior National team. This is the fifth year the John McGregor Secondary School graduate will represent Canada, having played in the FIBA World Championships for Canada’s U19 and U17 rosters.
