Junior Tartans Go Back-To-Back
This weekend the Wallaceburg Tartans Junior girls basketball team went West to Kingsville after winning a tournament in Guelph last week. The WDSS Tartans again proved to be tough competition, capturing their second championship in as many weeks.
With the first game of the weekend, the Tartans played Holy Names from Windsor beating them 48-5. Leading the way for WDSS was Gabi Whiteye with 10-points.
The second game of the day saw Wallaceburg face a split squad from host Kingsville. The Tartans came away victorious 55-15. Leading the charge was Abby Mahu with 9-points and Kayla Nogueira with 8.
Next up was the semi final against St. Thomas Aquinas from London. The game was back and forth early but the Tartans held their ground with a 50-27 win. Top scorers for Wallaceburg were Ferrah Blackbird with 9 and Kayla Nogueira with 8.
In the championship game, Wallaceburg came up against Villanova from Windsor. The Tartans managed the win 36-14 with a great defensive effort from all players. The offensive role went to Gabi Whiteye and Ferrah Blackbird scoring 8 a piece.
Up next for the Wallaceburg Junior Tartans is a regular season game against Sarnia Northern on Tuesday, followed by Northern’s tournament starting Friday.
