Maroons Fight Cancer
The Chatham Maroons Annual “Breast Cancer Awareness Night” held Sunday, October 29th was “another huge success due to the generosity of our Fans and our Sponsors!!” according to Karen Szekesy of the Chatham Maroons.
“The $2,905.00 raised from the auction of the ‘pink’ game jerseys, which were donated by the Szekesy Family and the raffle of the ‘pink’ hockey items will be shared by The Breast Buddies and by the Canadian Cancer Society, Chatham-Kent unit” said Szekesy.
Mike and Dawn Wonnacott of Simply Vinyl Signs & Graphics and Dean Outhouse of RPM Designs donated the ‘pink’ hockey items.
The Breast Buddies are a group of breast cancer survivors who have taken up dragon boat racing. It is their mission to promote awareness of a quality of life after a diagnosis of breast cancer.
Participating in the cheque presentation ceremony were Darcy Derbecker, Fundraising Assistant, Chatham-Kent Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society and Margaret Oxford, the Breast Buddies Coach.
Over the past 5 years, this brings the total to $15,006.00 raised by the Maroons and their Fans.
