John Massara made a spectacular debut with the Chatham Maroons Sunday night, standing his ground, and turning away the first place Leamington Flyers, as Massara and the Maroons beat Leamington 3-1.

Massara in his first game with Chatham, made 34 saves, several of them in spectacular form.

The only goal he allowed, was a fluke from behind the goal line in the third period.

Bryce Yetman scored a goal of his own from behind the net to open the scoring Sunday night at Memorial Arena.

Chatham built on that lead as Eric Carter banged home a shorthanded goal off a Dane Johnstone feed late in the second period.

After Leamington pulled it within one, Johnstone slid home an empty netter to secure the win.

Chatham’s Grant Spence had two assists in the win.

Game Notes: Underage defenseman Spencer Lecot of Harrow, who was a call up from the Chatham-Kent Cyclones, was a bright spot on the Maroons’ blueline in the absence of suspended Dakota Bohn. Lecot made good decisions with the puck all night, and played important minutes, including finding himself on the ice with a minute remaining, and Chatham protecting a one goal lead.

Bryce Yetman who leads the Chatham Maroons in scoring was ejected in the third period following a hit from behind.
