Coaching Changes in Blenheim
The Blenheim Blades, currently tied for seventh place with the Wheatley Sharks in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Stobbs Division, have made a change at the top of the bench staff releasing head coach Bill Cumming and defense coach Shawn Tiffin.
The Blades, currently 9-15-0-1, have struggled since early in the season when they began with six wins and just two losses in their first eight starts, and for a time were in first place despite losing 14 players from last year’s roster.
Cumming was an assistant coach last season with the Blades before being promoted to head coach in the spring after then head coach Ken Shine was not brought back.
Cumming then hired Tiffin, who had previously been with the Blades twice as a head coach and once as a general manager.
General manager Lonnie Hamilton said after Tuesday’s practice that he hopes to have his new staff in place in a couple of days.
The Blades practice Thursday but don’t play again until Sunday when they host the Amherstburg Admirals at 7 p.m.
