This past Saturday, the UCC wrestling team competed at the London High School Invitational Wrestling Tournament held at Western University.

Grade 10, Maddison Segeren dug deep to find her gold medal at 64 kg, pinning 3 opponents in the process.

Grade 12, Sofia Cedeno-Quintana at 115 kg, pinned down her own silver medal, while Grade 10 Hanna Srokosz at 44kg, pinned 2 of her opponents, to take home a bronze medal, completing the girls precious medal set.

For the boys team Ryan Geniole, lost a close match to finish 4th with 4 wins and 2 losses, Owen Dodman, 1 & 2 and Cameron Forrest, 0 & 3, all wrestled well but the competition from Barrie down to Windsor, proved difficult for them on this day. This event was also a qualifying event for the South Western Region of Ontario for the Ontario Winter Games to be held March 2nd & 3rd, in Orillia.

The top cadet finishers (Grade 9 and 10) from the event have the choice of competing at the games. As of right now, that is exactly UCC’s Maddison Segeren’s plan.

UCC’s wrestlers will continue digging for more precious medals next Saturday in Petrolia at LCCVI’s annual tournament.
