They were our top story of 2017, but for everyone out there giving the Wallaceburg Lakers a terrible time, let’s put their struggles this year in perspective.

A quick look across the 63 Junior C teams operating in the PJHL this season, shows us almost every division has a team in their 2-win range.

In fact, in the Orr, Tod, and Doherty Divisions, Little Britain, Cambepellford, and Delhi have a stunning zero wins through roughly 30 games each.

Then we can throw in Simcoe (another once dominant franchise) and Lucan, two longtime Junior C franchises just up the 401, who both have 2 wins this season as well.

Is it tough to watch? Definitely.

Are there other teams going through the same struggles across the province? For sure.

Think it’s restricted to Junior C? It’s not. How about the 1-win Junior B Buffalo Regals in the GOJHL’s Golden Horseshoe Conference?

How about the 2 win Milton Icehawks, a Junior A team playing in the highly regarded OJHL? Or the 1-win Espanola Express in the Junior A NOJHL?

Parity in leagues is ideal, but recruiting and success can sometimes come in waves, especially when an organization has had as many coaching and ownership changes as the Lakers.

It’s a New Year, let’s cut them a little slack, put the Lakers in perspective, and see what happens in the next few months.
