Farmers Ready To Rock In Wallaceburg
The farmers are coming.
The 33-annual addition of the All Ontario Farmers Curling bonspiel is scheduled for January 19-21. Wallaceburg’s Sydenham Community Curling Club will be a buzz with curling competition, fellowship, refreshments and entertainment all weekend long.
A full tournament of 28 teams is vying for a total prize board of $18,000. First place prize has been increased to $3000 cash. A large majority of the prize board is farm products and services.
Last years championship team skipped by Scott Lenox is returning. Also 8-time winner Jerry Meyskens will be back to try and win number 9. Teams play 2 games to then be seeded into flights for up to 4 more games. All skill levels of play are accommodated this way. Teams come to this premier curling bonspiel from across Ontario such as; Cookstown, Glencoe, Arthur, Stayner, Sarnia, Paris etc.
Not only is curling featured but Friday also has combine races run at the club. You must see this to believe it. Added this year is local musician Mike Gallant to preform.
Saturday night features RunAway Angel as that night’s spot light entertainment. This is a ladies vocal group/musicians specializing in country and western. They are a very successful recorded group from
A local volunteer committee organizes this as a major fund raiser for the Sydenham Community Curling Club which provides 4 sheets of curling ice, club room, and local meeting place for the town of Wallaceburg.
The club welcomes all out to watch some high and not so high-level curling. The musical entertainment is open to the public as well
