Bechard Named To OUA All-Rookie Team

Burke Bechard of Dover Centre was recognized this week as one of the top young basketball players on Ontario, being named to the OUA All-Rookie Team.

Bechard, recently completed her first season with the University of Guelph Gryphons.

“Burke’s work ethic and competitive drive is second-to-none,” said Guelph head coach Mark Walton in a team news release. “She is such a tough-minded athlete and is absolutely fearless taking the ball to the basket. She is a pleasure to coach. There is not an ounce of entitlement with her. It’s a refreshing attitude and she makes our whole team better.”

Bechard, a graduate of Chatham-Kent Secondary School and London Ramblers alumni averaged 10.8 ppg, ranking second on the Gryphons in scoring, rebounding, and assists. Defensively, Bechard grabbed a team-best 2.4 steals per game.

Bechard is studying psychology at Guelph.

In addition to Burke Bechard, the OUA All-Rookie team is Marin Scotten (Ryerson), Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu (Ottawa), Sarah Gates (McMaster), and Kristin Gallant (Brock).
