Major Bantam Wildcats Take Silver In London
There were 8 teams with each team playing 3 pool games and 1 game in the medal round. In the Wildcats’ side of the draw there were 3 teams who ended up with a 2 and 1 record. Based on point differential the Wildcat team finished first and earned a spot in the gold medal final.
The first pool game saw the Wildcats take on a tough Brantford CYO team. The Wildcats, despite struggling to score and turning the ball over frequently, managed to only loose by 2 points. The final score was 38-36. Claire Cox led the team in scoring with 13 points and Sara Turner chipped in 6 points.
The second game of pool play the Wildcats faced Sarnia Valhalla, came out strong and never looked back, winning this one 52-33. Elliot Cowan led the team with 12 points and 14 boards. Solara Howe added 9 points, Jillian Vickery 7 points and 5 steals, Marissa Beselaere and Briyah Baylis 6 points each and Claire Cox with 5 points and 4 assists.
In the 3 rd pool game the Wildcats faced the London Ramblers. This Wildcat team has not been able to win against the Ramblers in past play so a 59-48 win was especially sweet. Elliot Cowan led the team with 17 points, 13 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists. Marissa Beselaere added 16 points, Claire Cox 10 points and 4 assists and Bella Bugros 9 points and 2 assists.
The Gold Medal final pitted the Wildcats against the very tough and skilled Windsor Valiants. With a 10 point halftime lead, the Valiants played a fantastic 2 nd half and won this one big, 73-36. Jillian Vickery led the team with 8 points, Claire Cox 6 points and Bella Bugros 6 points and 3 assists.
