Kings Stay Alive, Shut Out 73s

The Dresden Kings edged Essex in game 5.

The Dresden Jr Kings have forced a game six in their Stobbs Division semi-final with the Essex 73’s and now hope to bring more playoff hockey back home to the Lambton-Kent Memorial Agricultural Centre.

Nolan Vandenboorn continued his clutch scoring, tallying the only goal that mattered at the 6:27 mark of the second period, his second of the post-season. Vandenboorn now has two game-winning-goals in these playoffs, to add to his nine game-winners during the regular season.

Port Lambton’s Brendan Johnston faced plenty of traffic and turned away all of the 23 shots he faced for his second shutout of the playoffs.

Essex tender Jax D’Hondt continued his stellar performance, stopping 20 of 21 shots, including a Will Tetzlaf penalty shot early in the second period.

Each team was 0 for 6 on the power play.

The Kings travel to Essex for Game 6 on Tuesday night, where the 73’s are undefeated on the post-season, while outscoring Dresden 14-2. If successful, the Jr Kings can force a seventh and deciding game back home, scheduled for Friday night, if necessary.
