Kings In Driver’s Seat
The Dresden Jr Kings find themselves in the driver’s seat of their opening round playoff series with the Wheatley Sharks.
It’s up to them whether they put their foot to the floor or let off the gas.
Following a nail-biter of a finish in game one, a 3-2 Dresden win, the Kings appear not to have let up in game two, shutting out the Sharks by a score of 4-0.
Derek Shaw opened the scoring with an unassisted powerplay goal in the first, his second of the post-season. Geoffrey VandenBoorn put two more behind Wheatley tender Catalin Morin, including a Dresden short-handed tally. VandenBoorn has been impressive through two playoff encounters, leading the way with two goals and two assists. Newcomer Kenny Chisolm put the game on ice with his first playoff goal as a Jr King. Port Lambton’s Brendan Johnston stopped all 29 shots he faced to earn the shutout.
The Kings, who finished second in the Stobbs Division, just one point shy of first place Lakeshore, have a legitimate chance at making a very deep playoff drive and securing a Stobbs Division title. Back at home on Friday, Dresden can tighten the strangle-hold and continue proving they have become top of the class in the PJHL.
Friday’s game three with Wheatley can be heard live on 99.1 FM CKXS, streamed online at ckxsfm.com and on all 99.1 CKXS mobile apps.
