Chatham Steals Game One Thriller
A huge win for the Chatham Maroons, taking game one of the Western Conference semi-finals in London, beating the Nationals 5-4 in double overtime.
Head Coach Ron Horvat says the team worked hard.
“We started out a little slow, but once we got going we did a good job,” Horvat says.”It seemed we got stronger, winning more face-offs, we were going to the net more, and it was a good game overall.”
Chatham was 2-5 on the power play, Dakota Bohn and Noah Bushnell both scored on the man advantage.
Bryce Yetman scored the winning goal 1:47 into the second extra frame.
The win gives the Maroons some extra momentum as Chatham was unable to beat the Nationals during the regular season.
“They’re going to make adjustments and we’re going to make adjustments,” Horvat says.”I think both teams wanted to be a little tighter than a 5-4 game in the playoffs, and we’ll work at that.”
The rest of the series has now been finalized – game two goes Saturday night in London, followed by games three and four in Chatham on Sunday and Tuesday.
