Emma Negri, a nine-year-old from Blenheim, won gold in shot put this past weekend at the 2018 David McKendrick Minor Track Association (MTA) Indoor Provincial Championships.

Competing March 24-25 at the Toronto Track and Field Centre, Negri threw 5.85m on her third throw to win the event, beating 17 other shot putters in the Tyke Girls Division (2008-2009 born).

The grade 4 St. Annes student, throws locally for Excel Athletics Club of Blenheim and is coached by her father, Darren Negri.

This season, Emma Negri’s first competitive indoor season, the young thrower won gold at all four meets she competed in.

Negri will start her second outdoor track season on May 5 with the Brampton Elite Meet, and plans to compete in both shot put and discus this spring and summer, culminating in the MTA Outdoor Provincial Championships July 28-29.
