ETOBICOKE, ON – The St. Clair College Women’s Basketball team (15-9) won the Consolation Championship Sunday afternoon in Etobicoke at the OCAA Championship hosted by Humber College with a thrilling 82-75 overtime win over George Brown College (17-4). The Saints held a slim lead after the opening quarter (12-10) but fell behind when George Brown opened up a 31-24 advantage by halftime. George Brown continued to expand their lead to as much as 11 points midway through the third quarter. But St. Clair responded the remainder of the frame and were only down 46-45 headed to the final quarter.

This see saw affair was just getting started as the teams shared the lead 14 times overall in the contest. The game went down to the wire in regulation and St. Clair could have pulled it out late after gaining possession with a 2-point lead. George Brown hustled the ball up-court and put their Player of the Game on the line with just 0.6 seconds left. Tianna Sullivan (Toronto, ON) made both free throws to force 5 extra minutes of overtime. George Brown took another lead early in the overtime period but St. Clair stormed back and scored 16 points total in the overtime led by Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) who earned Player of the Game honours for her team. Kucera scored 10 of her 26 points in overtime alone with 8 rebounds total in the game.

In her last collegiate game St. Clair’s Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph’s) went out in style scoring 22 points and added 15 rebounds to go with 4 blocked shots. Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON) also reached double figures for the Saints scoring 12 points to go with 12 rebounds for her own double-double. Anna Ulicny (Tecumseh, ON/St. Anne) scored 11 points to round out St. Clair’s double figure scorers.

With the win the Lady Saints can lay claim to a 5th place overall finish in the OCAA.
