Bantam Cougars Eye Repeat
The Chatham-Kent Cougars Bantam Football team opens up this Saturday, May 26th in Chatham at the Chatham-Kent Community Athletic Complex against the Sarnia Sturgeons.
With some players and coaches coming off last year’s championship, leadership and expectations will be set high for this year’s team.
At head coach, Andrew Stewart returns to the football field with last year’s returning Offensive Coordinator Mike Smith and RB Coach Alex Heavens.
Defensively, Andrew VanKoot, Luke Skaarup and Ryan Shreve complete the on field staff, with Leah Normandin Kerr working hard behind the scenes at Team Manager.
Offensively, the objective is to maintain a strong running attack with Koren Stewart, Joey Doxtater and Trenton Blackbird.
At QB, the team will split time between Evan VanKoot Cole and Owen Malott Bennett throwing to a strong group of WR’s in Evan Starr, Tyler Canniff, Wesley Dean and Ryan Grellmore.
The offensive line is anchored by Brennan Dodman and Mitchell Fortuna, Joseph Reimer, as well as Jordan Alderdice who provides a solid job over the ball.
Defensively, Christian Burgoon, Brayden Skaarup and Ben Church solidify the LBer corps on the interior with Brennan Normandin Kerr patrolling the middle of the field at the safety position.
Blake Hart, JayC Morlog, Kayden Alward, Brady Desveaux, Jonathon Sanderson, Trevon Smith and Ty Oliphant will round out a defensive line rotation that will pressure opposing QB’s.
While many are not mentioned, the team has many players that are multi value at many positions which will provide much value on the hot summer game days.
The goal is to work hard and translate strong work ethic into wins on the field.
