Carleton Among 26 Invited To Canadian National Team Camp
Canada Basketball announced 26 athletes, including Chatham’s Bridget Carleton who will take part in the Women’s National Team Program Assessment Camp from June 14-21 in Edmonton.
Carleton, a veteran of the Canadian National Women’s team played for Iowa State this year in the NCAA averaging 19.2 points per game in her Junior season. She was an All Big 12 First Team All-Star, and earned honourable mention as an All-American.
“I can’t wait to see all of the athletes and re-connect with them after their respective seasons,” said Lisa Thomaidis, Head Coach of Senior Women’s National Team in a Basketball Canada news release. “So many Canadians had excellent seasons on their respective professional and collegiate teams, so I’m excited to see the progress everyone has made.”
Following the Women’s National Team Program Assessment Camp, Canada will also hold Phase 1 Training Camp from June 22-July 3, again in Edmonton.
Following the Phase 1 camp, Canada will host Turkey in a three-game exhibition series from July 4-7.
“We are excited to be hosting Turkey in Edmonton as our senior team’s home base and to showcase the athletes and team to Canadian fans,” said Denise Dignard, Director Women’s High Performance. “As we begin the second year of the quad, these exhibition games will provide valuable competition mileage to our athletes and coaches as we prepare for the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.”
Canada is the reigning FIBA Americans champion, and is currently ranked 5th in the world.
