Sprints Take Over Buxton
Holly Porter #1, Shone Evans #87, and Jesse Costa #52 were quick to pull ahead of the pack to start their battle for first place. Porter held an amazing lead for the first ten laps battling nose to nose with Evans. After a caution restart, Evans got the chance he needed to pull ahead of Porter to become the race leader. This is his second straight win in the Action Sprint Tour powered by RaceRivalz.com.
“The track’s awesome, thanks to the fans and everyone who invited us here,” Evans said in Victory Lane.
He thanked his wife, crew and sponsors. Porter finished second and Costa third. The next stop on the Action Sprint Tour will be June 17th, 2018 at Humberstone Speedway.
It was a first West Side Performance Plus Late Model Feature win for CJ Field #4. Field, made a quick pass on Gregg Haskell #RH21 in turn three, he quickly shot away from the pack maneuvering lap traffic to maintain his lead.
“When the track dries out like this, you just peddle it,” Field said in Victory Lane. Field thanked his crew, sponsors and fans for all of their support. Dale Glassford #60, who has been a top contender all season, began the Feature in 6th and patiently waited for his chance to break into the top three and after a hard battle with Haskell, finished second. Haskell took third.
“Its about time, finally,” Clayton Smith #313 said in Victory Lane after the Schinkels Gourmet Meat Modified Feature. Fans quickly jumped to their feet as fan favourites: Smith, Jim Dale #00 and Brian Speelman #22s were quick to pull ahead of the pack to battle each other for first. After an impressive three wide battle with Jim Dale #00 and Brian Speelman #22s in lap 13, Smith quickly made his way into the number one position.
“I pretended like I’ve never been here before, I got rid of some bad habits,” Smith said while celebrating his win with his pit crew. “I’d like to thank my wife, my crew and sponsors,” he said before leaving the track. Speelman, last weeks Feature Winner, finished second. Dale, finished third.
The Great Canadian Mini Mod Feature race tested the driving skill of Dylan Bonner #N64 as he maneuvered track cautions to quickly move to battle the race leader.
“I was just trying to stay out of the wrecks. After I passed them and it was just me and #31(Marshall Hereygers) all I could think of was – don’t spin out, don’t spin out.”
Bonner, began the race 6th, battled hard with Hereygers and in lap eleven made an impressive pass and quickly sped away.
“I didn’t think I had anything for him, next thing I knew I was in front of him!” an excited Bonner said after his win. “I’d like to thank my sponsors, crew, Mom and Grandpa. Most of all, I would like to thank my Dad. He’s out there working on the cars and more dedicated than anybody.”
Hereygers finished second and Andrew Pfahler #7x who started the race 9th finished 3rd. **Please note, these results are not official. This feature is still under review pending the results of Saturday night’s tech inspection. Official results will be announced later this week**
Steve Shaw Sr #96 was quick to move to the front during the Auto Tech Sales and Service Thunderstock Feature. Shaw, who has swept this season so far, battled the final laps against Cody Vandewynckel #43 for a first place finish. Vandewynckel drove an impressive race as he fought hard against Shaw for a top three finish. ** Please note, due to the results of a tech inspection after the race Steve Shaw #96 and Steve Shaw Jr #9t6 have been disqualified. The Official finishes of this feature are: First Place: Corey Vandewynckel, Second Place: Barry Watson #45. Third Place: Brian Brady #4B.
