The 2018 Tuukka Cup was held this past weekend at the Ridgetown Arena (Novice to Midget divisions) and the Ridgetown Golf & Curling Club (Adult division).

In honour of Ronny ‘Tuukka’ Betterley, a local hockey enthusiast who passed away this year after a battle with DIPG at the age of 7, the tournament was founded to raise money for charities selected by the Betterley family including Childcan, Ronald McDonald House, and Children’s Wish Foundation.

The tournament was organized by Mike Boersma (Ronny’s cousin) with help from his wife Sydney, the Betterley family, the Boersma family, as well a numerous volunteers.

The first Tuukka Cup was a huge success with 33 teams and over 170 players registered. There was a BBQ, skills competitions, charity promotions, and of course lots of road hockey for Ronny. The event did so well that it will be back again in August 2019, and will be bigger and better.

Winners of each division are as follows:

  • Novice – Friends 4ever
  • Atom – Platinum Hockey
  • Peewee – PFC Fighter Jets
  • Bantam – No Regretzkys
  • Midget – Ronny’s Deere
  • Adult – Team Rtown

There will also be a “Drive 4 Tuukka” test drive September 8 at Blenheim Chevrolet from 10am to 2pm. $25 for each test drive will be added to the Tuukka Cup’s final donation.
