Chatham’s Bridget Carleton has been named to Canada’s National Women’s team for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018. The tournament will take place in Spain from September 22-30.
“After a very competitive training camp, we have a roster that we’re really excited about,” said Lisa Thomaidis, Head Coach of the Senior Women’s National Team in a Canada Basketball news release. “We’re looking forward to this next stage of training and competition, where we’ll be able to measure ourselves against some of the best teams in the world prior to competing at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.”
Carleton is entering her senior season with the NCAA’s Iowa State Cyclones, where she was an honourable mention All-American last year.
Canada is currently ranked 5th in the world.
Canada is in Group A for the tournament and will play Greece (September 22), Korea (September 23), and France (September 25) in the group stage of the tournament.
Canada will play a warm up series of games in Connecticut against Japan and the USA this week, and compete in a pre-World Cup tournament in France against France, the USA, and Senegal from September 15-17.
