Jones To Face-Off Against Former Team As Oilers Play In Germany

Chatham’s Ryan Jones will play his former team, the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers, when Edmonton faces Jones’ Cologne Sharks (Kolner Haie) in Germany on October 3.

The two teams will play an exhibition game as part of the NHL’s Global Series Challenge.

The game will take place at Lanxess Arena in Cologne.

Jones played for the Edmonton Oilers from 2010 until 2014, suiting up in 247 games for the Oilers. His best campaign with the team came in 2011-2012 when he scored 17 goals and 33 points. Jones moved to Kolner Haie playing in Germany’s DEL in 2014-2015, and has played for the team since.

Despite multiple seasons away from the NHL, a few current Oilers, including Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Oscar Klefbom are holdovers from Jones’ time with the team. Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl hails form Germany, and his father coaches Kolner Haie.

Two other Kolner Haie players, Corey Potter and Steve Pinizzotto are also former teammates of Jones’ with the Edmonton Oilers.

New Jersey will play an exhibition game against SC Bern in Switzerland, before two regular season NHL games take place in Finland and Sweden.
