The UCC Lancers Jr. Football team got off to a 2-0 start in WE SSAA dominating their opening two games.
Week 2 saw UCC defeat Father John Brennan Windsor. UCC got off to a strong start with 2 opening first quarter touchdown passes from quarterback Darion Bacik-Hadden. He connected with Cody Boulley for a 43 yard td and Tyler Shumanski on a 34 yard td. Logan Stefina converted both extra points. The second quarter was all Lancers as well scoring an additional 19 unanswered points. Bacik-Hadden rumbled in from 18 yards out for a td. Shumanski added a 34 yard rushing td and topped off his day with a 45 yard punt return td. The Lancers lead at half time 35-0 and turned the game over to their rookie backups who played well and kept the Brennan Cardinals off the scoreboard.
“We played a very balanced first half of football today,” said head coach Jim O’Brien. “Our starting offence got off to a quick start and the defence came to play, led by Dante Handsor who had 8 solo tackles 3 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries.”
In week one UCC crushed the Sandwich Sabres 40-2.
