Broad Swimming At Youth Olympics
Chatham Pool Shark, Madison Broad (age 18), will be competing for Canada at the Youth Olympics Games
in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Broad, a backstroker, earned her place on the team through her performance at the Canadian Swimming Championships in Montreal in April.
The Youth Olympic Games, starts Saturday and runs through Oct. 18. It will bring together 4,000 athletes aged 15 to 18 from 206 countries to compete across 32 sports. It will be live streamed at CBCSports.ca, with a one-hour daily highlight show broadcast at 8 p.m. ET.
Broad is competing in the 50, 100, and 200 backstroke; freestyle and medley relays; mixed medley relay.
Pool Sharks Coach Kyle Pinsonneault commented, “It’s an incredible opportunity for Maddy to swim at such a prestigious sporting event. She has worked hard for this spot and we are very proud of her. It just proves again that great athletes can come from a small community. We are so proud of her.”
Broad recently competed for Canada at Junior Pan-Pacific’s in Fiji this summer where she brought home three medals, including a silver in the 200 back, bronze in the 100 back, and a silver in the medley relay.
