The Chatham-Kent Cyclones Major Peewee AAA team competed in the Monarch Battle Royale hockey tournament in Rochester, New York this past weekend, winning the championship.

In round robin play, the Chatham-Kent Cyclones managed a 3-1 record with wins against the Utica Jr. Comets, Rochester Monarchs, and the Troy-Albany Titans.

In a back and forth, nail biting semi-final game against the Rochester Coalition, and while tied 3-3 in the third period, the Cyclones took a penalty with 1:10 left to play on the clock. Nevertheless, the fearsome penalty killing duo of Justin Ewald and Abby Stonehouse not only worked tirelessly to kill the penalty, but managed to create a neutral zone turnover resulting in a 2 on 1 rush that ended with Abby Stonehouse scoring for the win and with 12 seconds left on the clock to give Chatham-Kent the 4-3 win.

In a fast paced and very physical Championship game, the Cyclones pulled off the victory, playing against the Oshawa Jr. Generals, 3-1.

The Cyclones coaching staff expressed pride in the effort given by their players, who embraced an all for one team approach, and also acknowledged the followings players as being standouts in this tournament: Abby Stonehouse, Justin Ewald, Ryan Gautreau, Aidan Edwards, Noah Wilson, Ashton Lovell, Warren Everett, Preston Anderson, Ethan Wolf, Josh Hazzard, Aiden Solway, Remi Steen, Lexi Stanat, Kaiden Lovell, Owen Campbell, Wyatt Grover, and Jack Martin.
