Major Peewee Cobras Win Stoney Creek Tournament of Champions
The Kent Cobras Major Peewee ‘AA’ hockey team traveled to Stoney Creek this past weekend, and came away as winners of the Tournament of Champions.
The Cobras opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over the Burlington Eagles. Tom Blundy, Cole Labadie, Evan Sawyer, and Mitchell Loveday scored for Kent, while Cooper Crowe was solid in net.
In game two, the Cobras suffered their first loss of the tournament, a 2-1 overtime decision to the Northumberland Nighthawks. Evan Sawyer had the lone goal.
Kent bounced back in a big way in their third game, with the Major Peewee ‘AA’ squad skating to a lopsided 9-0 win against the Buffalo Saints. Luc Chickowski, Luc Blanchette, Brayden Fieldhouse, Ethan Gagnier, Nicholas Horban, Gavin Meriano, and Evan Sawyer had singles, while Mitchell Loveday scored a pair. Kiegan Arnew took the win between the pipes.
In their final round robin game, the Crobras were edged 3-2 by the Niagara Purple Eagles. Loveday and Fieldhouse had the goals.
Moving into the semi-finals, the Cobras had to face the same Northumberland team who defeated them in round robin play, but this time came away with a 3-2 overtime win.
Fieldhouse and Meriano scored in regulation, with Mitchell Loveday netting the overtime winner.
In the championship game, the Major Peewee Kent Cobras beat Burlington 5-2 for the title
Luc Blanchette scored a hat trick, while Fieldhouse and Loveday scored, continuing their strong offensive weekend.
