Leaving Their Mark On Chatham-Kent
For Wallaceburg’s Jamie Knight, that mark is created by the personal connections his company, and the game of lacrosse makes on each and every youth they teach.
“We are a business that cares about every child that comes through our doors,” Knight said, emphasizing the word ‘every.’
“Development and improvement are extremely important to us. We receive a lot of positive feedback from parents which is always great to hear.”
The Wallaceburg Red Devils Junior B coach has been involved in the game as long as he can remember. He’s worked in the game at a variety of levels, including for the fledgling Canadian Lacrosse League. The commitment he put toward this league however, was one of the reasons he decided to refocus his attention to growing the game locally.
“I was finishing working for the Canadian Lacrosse League in the spring of 2017 and honestly was sick of being away from my daughter and family,” said Knight of starting Leave Your Mark Lacrosse.
His business provides training, lessons, camps, and school instruction for youth in Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, Elgin-Middlesex, and Windsor-Essex.
Current professional lacrosse player Jordan Durston, of the NLL’s Buffalo Bandits is a Leave Your Mark instructor and coach alongside Knight.
“Having Jordan Durston home helping is such an added bonus,” said Knight of Leave Your Mark. “To have a Pro teaching our young athletes all the little things it takes be better and actually caring about their progress is an incredible thing. I am extremely happy with how far Leave Your Mark Lacrosse has come, but I am really excited to see us grow.”
Growing the game of lacrosse has been a goal of many involved in the game, but Leave Your Mark is truly working toward this goal at a grassroots level, and according to Jamie Knight, the game of lacrosse, which is Canada’s National sport, has much to offer to youth.
“Lacrosse offers so many positives to young athletes,” he said. “It is a fast, physical, highly skilled sport. The bonds players make with their teammates will last a lifetime.”
