Chatham-Kent rugby players Savannah Emmott and Maddy Hathaway will be heading across the Atlantic for a rugby tour, and are in need of local sponsors and support.

The duo will be travelling with the Sarnia Saints Women’s Rugby Team from July 31 to August 10, playing teams in Dublin, Galway, and Belfast.

1. Playing in a women’s league I am expecting to be a part of the full rugby experience. I’ve always been told that rugby is like one big community. Being from Chatham-Kent it is hard to see that because rugby here is limited. However, I am expecting to go to Ireland, play rugby, meet players and coaches from across the world, and during and after matches get to embrace the spirit of rugby and get to know the other teams on a more personal level. I am very excited to be a part of a bigger rugby community.

According to Emmott, the opportunity to play in another country, rich in rugby history is an exciting prospect.

“Ireland is a beautiful country. I cannot wait to witness all of its historical sites and beauty. Then there’s the fact that Ireland is big in the world of rugby. Being able to go somewhere where rugby is a dominate part of their culture and history excites me,” said Emmott, who also stars for the Ursuline College Lancers.

The duo are looking for local sponsors to help cover the costs, that are expected to exceed $3000 each.

“Being in grade 12, my last year of high school, I need to save for university, but I could not miss out on this amazing opportunity,” explained Emmott.

“Any donation is greatly appreciated and I will keep all donors informed of what I am doing and what I have accomplished throughout my trip. You can contact me at savannahe23@hotmail.com.”

Any business who supports the duo will also receive an advertisement in their team booklet, which will be distributed throughout Chatham-Kent, Sarnia, and Ireland.
