Red Devils Ready To Rebuild, Look To Outwork Opponents
The Wallaceburg Red Devils are ready for another season of Ontario Junior B Lacrosse. With many veterans moving on from last year, the Red Devils coaching staff is looking to rebuild through teaching local talent.
“Our focus is on teaching and coaching up a lot of young and new players,” said Red Devils head coach Jamie Knight. “We are going to be a young team and our success will be very dependent on our ability to teach and our players willingness to learn.
Wallaceburg plays their home opened Saturday, April 13 against Welland at 7pm. Their next home contest is against Division rival Windsor on Tuesday, April 23 at 8pm.
The opening weekend roster will look very different from the team that finished last season.
“We lost over 14 starters from last season so we are going through a rebuild and our roster will be almost completely new,” explained Knight. “In saying that I am happy with competition and kids fighting for roster spots. We will be young with an average age of 18, but that is exciting for us for not only this year but the future as well.”
With that in mind, growth is the goal, not winning, at least not immediately.
“Our goal right now is to improve every time we hit the floor,” said Knight, who hopes to surprise teams this summer.
“We have to work harder than every other team in the league this summer and that starts with us coaches.”
