Johnson Named To Team Canada For 2019 FISU Summer Universiade
Chatham’s Pierce Johnson has been named to Team Canada’s men’s volleyball team for the 2019 FISU Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy.
Johnson was the University of Windsor’s Male Athlete of the Year, and helped his Lancers volleyball team to an OUA bronze medal.
He also was a USports Second-Team All-Canadian, and OUA First Team All-Star.
“We are very excited to reveal the members of Team Canada for the 2019 FISU Summer Universiade. Every student-athlete on this team has shown the ability to balance academics and athletics, and we are tremendously proud to have them wear the maple leaf in Naples, Italy,” said Lisette Johnson-Stapley, Chief Sport Officer at U SPORTS in a news release.
“As the Olympics of University Sport, the FISU Games are an excellent opportunity for all of our student-athletes to compete against fellow world-class talent, as they set their sights on gold.”
Johnson, who was the CKSN 2018 Male Athlete of the Year, will open the FISU Universaide Summer Games with Canada on July 3, taking part in the opening ceremonies that day in Italy.
