Maggie Denys To Play For The University of Windsor
A former Chatham-Kent Wildcats product, Denys has been playing for Southwest Academy out of London for the past 3 years.
“I chose the University of Windsor because I think it will be the best all-around fit for me,” said Denys in a Windsor Lancers news release. “Not only are the programs that I am interested in available, but it is close to home which will allow my family to attend my games. Basketball has always been a big part of my family from the time I started and my dad was my coach.”
A 5’9″ guard, Denys also spent time with the London Ramblers in the JUEL Prep league, and was captain of Southwest Academy this past year.
For Denys, Windsor is a team she’s followed since a young age.
“Growing up in Chatham, the men’s and women’s teams at Windsor were something that we as younger athletes looked up to. I like the idea of promoting basketball close to my hometown and being a role model for younger athletes like the Windsor Lancers were for us. In addition, I have had strong female coaches that have had a huge impact on me, such as my assistant coach at Southwest, Jennifer Cushing. I want to be coach someday and I believe that the environment that Coach Vallée and her assistants have created will help me achieve that goal.”
“When I visited the campus, the girls and coaches went out of their way to make sure that my family and I felt at home. The genuine reaction I received from the team when I announced my signing made it clear to me that I had made the right choice to come to Windsor!”
Chantal Vallée, head coach of the Lancers was equally as excited sign Denys.
“Maggie’s ability to see the floor and pass is outstanding. Additionally, she can shoot the ball and has a very high basketball IQ. We are so happy to have an athlete from Chatham joining our team. I look forward to welcome her and her family to the Windsor Lancers.”
Denys is still undecided on a major.
The Windsor Lancers women’s basketball team open their 2019-20 regular season on Wednesday, October 23 at hosting the Western Mustangs.
