McPherson Invited To Canadian National U18 Hockey Tryouts
Chatham’s Jessie McPherson will vie for a roster spot on Canada’s National U18 women’s hockey team after being one of six goalies invited to tryouts.
McPherson, who played this season with the PWHL’s Cambridge Rivulettes has finished in the top 10 in league statistics in her first two seasons.
The Chatham Outlaws alumni posted a 9-6-4 record this past season with 4 shutouts, along with a 1.45 goals against average and .934 save percentage.
“For the under-18 program, this is the first step of our process towards defending gold at the 2020 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship,” said Gina Kingsbury, director of national women’s teams in a Hockey Canada news release. “At the same time, it’s an important touch point for our development-aged athletes to give them critical experiences ahead of the start of their club-team seasons, and push for an opportunity for 2022. It enables Hockey Canada to provide experiences, teaching and feedback necessary for athletes to take their game to the next level.”
The selection camp will take place at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, from August 2-11.
