Three Pool Sharks Medal At Provincials

Four local swimmers represented the Chatham Pool Sharks at the Swim Ontario Provincial Championships (50m pool) this past weekend at the Pan Am Pool in Toronto. This meet is the highest level of provincial competition offered and has fast qualifying times. Qualifying Sharks included David Tran, Genevieve Sasseville, Quinn Matteis, and Madison Broad.

These four individuals formed a mighty force. Their performances managed to win the Best Performing Team award. This award is for the team scoring the highest team points from swimmers who place in the top three in their events. The total points are divided by the total number of swimmers entered into the meet. Pool Sharks averaged 8.25 points per swimmer, the highest of the teams at the meet with a minimum of four swimmers.

Quinn Matteis was the top point recepient in the Boys 14 year old age category. Quinn won the 400m, 800m, and 1500m free events and placed second in the 200m free and 200m individual medley. He was also 5th in the 100m butterfly, 6th in the 50m free, and 7th in the 200m butterfly.

Genevieve Sasseville captured Gold in the 100m butterfly, Silver in the 200m free, and Bronze in the 50m free. Madison Broad captured three Silver Medals – 100m back, 50m free, and 200m back. David Tran placed 6th in the 50m free.
