With rumours swirling in the stands of a coaching change, the Blenheim Blades dropped a game to the Amherstburg Admirals by a 5-3 score. The Blades bench was missing coaches Scott Teron and Kent Hamilton which helped with the rumours.

The Blades did play a solid game except for in the third where they out scored by a 3-1 count, one of those goals being an empty netter.

The teams were tied with neither team able to score in the 1 st period. The Admirals struck early in the second, but the Blades tied the game when Derek Hueni scored at the 8:48 mark. Blenheim then took the lead when Alex Cunningham scored 13:00 into the period, putting his team up 2-1.

Unfortunately for the Blades they found themselves with two men in the box, late in the period. They were able to hold the Admirals at bay and get one man back on the ice, but Amherstburg’s Cody Schneider scored with 9 seconds remaining in the period to tie the game.

In the third period, the Admirals sunk the Blades when they put two pucks behind goaltender Chris Dewulf. Blenheim pulled their tender for the extra attacker, but Amherstburg put the knife in the heart with an empty netter. The Blades however, didn’t lay down, and at 18:42 Seth Henderson notched his eleventh goal of the season. Henderson leads the Blades with 17 points.

The Blades are off till next Sunday, when they have another chance against the
Admirals in Blenheim.
