Kings Top Blades In OT
In a very physical, exciting game between long time rivals the Kings were able to erase a one goal lead twice to get to overtime, and get the win. The Blades were outshot 44-28, but veteran goaltender Chris DeWolf was fantastic and robbed Kings players of several sure goals.
Neither team was able to score in the first twenty minutes of play, but early in the second Derek Hueni put the Blades into the lead on a powerplay. That would be the only goal of the period. Dresden tied the game when Dawson Winchester scored on a power play 11:38 into the third. Blenheim replied quickly when Seth Henderson scored his seventh and team leading goal of the season.
Dresden kept pressing hard, and with Connor Ogg on the bench for the extra attacker Derek Shaw scored the tying goal with 21 seconds left on the clock. The score remained tied, forcing a 7 minute three on three overtime period. Both teams had chance to end the game, but neither goaltender was willing to be beat. With fifteen seconds left in the extra period, Kings Derek Shaw would score his second of the night for the win.
The Blades have a chance to get back in the win column when they travel to Wallaceburg Saturday for an 8 pm game. Dresden is off until the travel up the road on Oct 17 to face Petrolia.
