Chatham-Kent’s Pierce Johnson, Making CK Proud

Chatham-Kent sends athletes across Ontario, Canada, and the globe each year to compete athletically. We hope many of these athletic ambassadors for our community someday come baCK to call Chatham-Kent home.

This week, we feature Chatham’s Pierce Johnson. An All-Ontarian and All-Canadian volleyball player, Johnson currently stars for the University of Windsor Lancers men’s volleyball team. He has represented Team Canada multiple times, and was named the University of Windsor’s Male Athlete of the Year last year.

Here are Pierce’s responses to our baCK to Chatham-Kent athletes interview:

1. Can you describe what support you’ve felt from your hometown/Chatham-Kent while you’ve been away?

Since I have left for Windsor I have had incredible support from Chatham-Kent. I have lots of friends and family come support me across the province at games and message me to see how the season is going.  I have also received great support from local media checking in on me throughout the year.

2. What do you enjoy about coming home to visit?

I love coming home to visit my family, I don’t get to go home often during the school year because of our schedule but when I do it’s a great way to just relax.

3. Would you consider making Chatham-Kent home again some day?

Chatham-Kent is a great town that I have a lot of ties to. I’m not sure where I am going to end up when I get older, but if my path took me back to Chatham I would have no issues coming back.

4. What advice would you give to young athletes baCK home in Chatham-Kent?

Growing up playing sports I was always focused on winning and losing and I thought that was what defined you as an athlete. If you only focus on that part of sport then you will lose the love of the game very quickly. Focusing on being the best version of yourself and improving your own game will let you enjoy the game more and you’ll want to get better and better everyday.
