Say Goodbye To Names Like Peewee and Midget, Hockey Canada Unveils New Naming System
There will no longer be age category names including tyke, novice, atom, peewee, bantam, and midget.
Beginning next season Hockey Canada will role our aged based categories including U9, U11, U13, U15, U18, and U21.
“We believe everyone should feel welcome in the game and in our on-going effort to make hockey more inclusive, the Members at the Hockey Canada Annual Meeting determined that the names of our age Divisions will change,” said Michael Brind’Amour, chair of the Hockey Canada Board of Directors in a Hockey Canada news release.
“Following a comprehensive review, we believe this change will simplify the system for families who may be new to the game. The new age Division names will be implemented for next season.”
The new system will be used across Canada, in both girls and boys hockey beginning next season.
