Strong Third Propels Maroons Over Rockets
The Chatham Maroons needed a four goal third period to propel them past the Strathroy Rockets.
The Maroons started the third trailing by a 6-3 score, when 55 seconds in Dallas Maurovic scored his second of the night. He followed that up by scoring at the 5:53 mark while on a power play to bring the Maroons to within one. Maddux Rychel tied the game when he took a pass and put it five hole on the ice between Rockets goalie Zion Miceli’s legs. With overtime looming, Maroons captain Griffin Robinson scored with 34 seconds left in the game for the win. The Rockets pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker, but were not able to muster anything and time ran out.
Chatham got on the board early in the first when Ashton Jones scored. The Rockets then reeled off three unanswered goals by Brendan Mairs, Zachery Berriault, and Daniel Aspro to head to the locker room up 3-1. 3:23 into the second, Maroon Tate Bowden scored to make the score 3-2.
The Rockets then scored while on a power play at 4:14 mark when Aspro scored his second of the evening. At the halfway mark of the period Maurivic scored his first of three to bring his team to within one, but the Rockets replied with a pair of goals by Jordan D’Intino (power play) and Adrian Franklin to go up by a 6-3 to end the second.
It was a tough night for Maroons starting goaltender Darian McTavish, who was pulled at the 32:59 mark of the game, giving up five goals on 22 shots. Kevin Linker got the win for the Maroons stopping 24 of 25 shots. Dallas Maurovic and Griffin Robinson both had four point nights for Chatham.
