Blades’ Moccia and Pinsonneault Harpoon Sharks
Christian Moccia’s goal at 3:59 of the overtime period sunk the Wheatley Sharks and completed his hat trick.
A night after a brutal 6-0 loss to Amherstburg, the Blades were able to regroup and get the win at home Sunday night.
Things were not looking much brighter on Sunday, as the Blades could not put together many good scoring opportunities and were relying heavily on the strong play of starting goaltender Caleb Pinsonneault to stay in touch. Pinsonneault would face 42 shots on the night, including a 2on 0 breakaway in the OT period.
Trailing by two to start the third, the Sharks looked like they were on their way home with the win but, just past the halfway mark Moccia scored to bring the Blades within one. Two minutes later, at 14:43 it was Moccia scoring again, this time while on the power play to tie the game at 2.
In the 3 on 3 overtime, the Blades got caught up, and sent two Sharks in alone on Pinsonneault who made a great save to keep his team alive. Shortly after the save, Seth Henderson fed a smooth pass across to a streaking Moccia who beat Sharks goaltender Kyle Metson for the win.
