Rugby player Natasha Smids has always been a competitor on the field, and now the 20-year-old is in her biggest battle, following an industrial accident this week.

Smids, who was a LKSSAA high school rugby all-star, playing for the UCC Lancers, before advancing to play OCAA rugby for the Sheridan College Bruins, was critically injured in an industrial accident at Truly Green Farms in Chatham on Monday.

She was airlifted to London Health Sciences Centre following the incident, and has been placed in a medically induced coma.

Smids was working at Truly Green Farms part time while attending the University of Guelph – Ridgetown Campus.
