When an age gap separates siblings from playing on the same team, Junior hockey can often reunite.

This was the case for the Cunningham brothers, Matt and Alex who became linemates this season with the Blenheim Blades.

“Being over 3 years apart we have never had the opportunity to play together in the past, it is awesome to have him as apart of our team and even better that I can call him a linemate,” said older brother Alex who served as the captain of the Blades this season after returning from Junior B last year.

“Having the opportunity to go play with my brother has been an awesome experience,” said younger brother Matt who started this year with the GOJHL’s Sarnia Legionnaires.

“I’ve been watching him play for as long as I can remember. To actually suit up with him has been really cool for me. I think it has been really special for my parents as well.”

With the Blenheim Blades season coming to an end this weekend, the bond of on ice family and off ice family is sure to continue for the Cunningham’s.
