Applications Open For Second Annual Ken Houston Memorial Scholarship Award
The second annual Ken Houston Memorial Scholarship Award is now available to local high school graduates.
Family and friends of the late famed Ken “Doc” Houston have formed a committee and raised funds to award local students who spent their formative years in the Dresden Minor Hockey system.
The scholarship award will be given to a Dresden Minor Hockey product who is graduating from high school and moving on to post-secondary education.
The committee says the successful candidate will show a passion for hockey, be driven with a strong work ethic. He or she will have a solid moral compass and will be a leader on and off the ice. This person will enjoy the social aspects that life has to offer and be a community minded person and shows the spirit of giving back. The scholarship recipient will have a strong respect for their peers and will also have a strong respect for coaches and teachers while earning that same respect back.
To apply, write a 500-word essay on why you think you should receive the Ken Houston Memorial Scholarship Award. Please attach two references that may include coaches, teachers, employers or community leaders.
