Veccia Signs With OHL’s Mississauga Steelheads

Ridgetown’s Zander Veccia will have his chance at the OHL level next season after signing with the Mississauga Steelheads.

Veccia was selected in the 3rd round, 43rd overall by the Steelheads, and agreed with the team on a Standard Player Agreement and Education Package

“We are very pleased to announce the signing of Zander Veccia,” said Steelheads General Manager and Head Coach James Richmond in a team news release. “He plays the game hard every shift and will look really good in the blue and white. Zander is a very strong 200’ winger. His hockey IQ is very high and knows where to be in all three zones on the ice. He’s a character guy that will be a good fit in our dressing room. We are pleased to welcome Zander and his family to the Steelheads family.”

Veccia was one of the leading scorers in the Alliance Hockey Minor Midget ‘AAA’ loop this season, helping the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs to an Alliance championship.

“The organization has been amazing since Draft Day,” said Veccia of the Mississauga Steelheads. “I’m really excited to make things official today and look forward to getting started with the team. I’d like to thank my parents, Andy Paquette from Powertech and Dwayne Blais from TPH along with my Elgin Coaches for getting me ready for the next level.”
