Flashback Friday: Louie Blackbird
In the 1990s, Louie Blackbird was one of the areas top hockey players. A Walpole Island athlete who starred for the Petrolia Jets before embarking on an OHL career with the Sudbury Wolves and Sarnia Sting, before returning home to play for the Wallaceburg Lakers.
The photo above is of Louie Blackbird in 1996-1997 with the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves, and last year with the Wallaceburg Thunderhawks. Blackbird was named the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame’s coach of the year last year after winning an OMHA championship with Wallaceburg’s Midget team, and joined the Thunderhawks inaugural coaching staff this year.
